Reflection of the handout/ brief.

I reacted well to the brief, for my A Level Film exam it was based around experimental film, so luckily I have an understanding of experimental film, most of my knowledge is on the soviet cinema of the 1940's so I could expand what I know with watching other films.
I think experimental film is such an amazing way to show what you want to show, and portray everything you can. You can make the strangest film you want, with no narrative, you can be so creative and powerful, really its like making a piece of art, that is moving, I'm passionate about making something that i want to make, and how i want to make it.

Experimental film ideas

For our experimental film brief me and my group came up with several ideas after brain storming:

  • An interpretation of the Rupyard Kipling poem 'If' with a female voice over, images portraying what the poem is saying, but also going off subject too. We went into great detail for this idea as it was out favourite, we were going to use still images and stop motion, use black and white, camera not moving only the characters, exaggeration of noises and movements, making everything surreal and odd. We decided against this idea in a split second, we wanted to make something different, and completely go off subject.
  • Making a swapped worlds film, for example girl from the country in a city, boy from the city in the country, and making them very different and adding strange non narrative experiences for both.
  • Using teapots to depict a human relationship, making it just crazy, using them as you would use actors, making there story obvious, using still photography and still motion as seen in 'La Jetèe'. This is the idea we are going to be depicting, we will be as creative as possible. Making it as crazy as we can, really going overboard with out ideas.
